The Friends of Cameron Stadium group is undertaking a fundraising initiative with a target of $7 million to renovate the current Cameron Stadium, formerly known as Garland Street Field. The stadium, the home of the Bangor Rams, will be transformed into a high quality, fully accessible athletics and wellness venue.
Plans for the renovated facility, as conceived by Bangor School Department, include installation of artificial-turf, multi-sport field lined for football, soccer and field hockey, as well as a new 6,000-seat home grandstand, a modern press box, elevator, concession stands and a locker-room complex featuring four locker rooms with individual showers, coaches’ rooms and training rooms. Players will be able to enter the locker rooms directly from the field through tunnels at the front of the grandstand.
The new facility will feature 3,000 seats for visiting team fans, compared to the current facility which has just 200 seats. The current six-lane track would be expanded to eight lanes, making it an ideal facility to host major track meets. New lighting will be installed around the field.
The existing facilities were built in 1944 and are in need of major repairs.
