The super regional mall owned by Cadillac Fairview has been unveiled after an intensive 14-month construction period. The project involved $54-million investment by Cadillac Fairview.

The Dining Terrace is introduced as a stylish environment designed to reinvent the shopping center dining experience in Canada, according to Manon Parisien, vice-president, Eastern Canada Portfolio, Cadillac Fairview.

The Dining Terrace features a spacious, contemporary and streamlined environment, offering traditional dining choices alongside refined cosmopolitan cuisine. In the pavilions, consumers can even watch the chefs as they prepare. The Dining Terrace also features fresh-food shops. The Dining Terrace is designed to accommodate 1,200 people with 25% more seating capacity than the two previous food courts combined.

Mindful of consumer concern for the environment and in keeping with Cadillac Fairview’s national sustainability program, known as ‘Green at Work’, Dining Terrace operators have all agreed to eliminate styrofoam and plastic dishes and cutlery from their tableware, in favor of custom-designed dishware for Carrefour Laval. Consequently, Carrefour Laval now uses energy-efficient dishwashing equipment, and sends organic waste to a composting centre.

Renovations to the former food court, the final phase in the $54-million investment project has begun and is expected to be completed by late 2010.

Officially opened in March 1974, Carrefour Laval has a gross leasable area in excess of 1.3 million square feet. It houses more than 300 stores and services under one roof, including renowned retailers such as La Maison Simons, The Bay, Sears and Rona l’Entrepot. More than 11 million consumers shop at Carrefour Laval each year.
