The renovation was designed by Pennsylvania-based Crabtree, Rohrbaugh and Associates. The refurbishment project has added 309,000 square feet of additional space to the existing school int the form of a fieldhouse, a 12,000 square feet library as well as a 20,000 square feet music/arts wing. The revamped facilities also include an auditorium, a new student services section, a 20,000-square-feet cafeteria/food court and a new three-storey classroom wing. The renovations will accomodate four grade levels of the school in a single facility.
The building will feature a new competition gymnasium comprising separate weight training and cardio fitness rooms, auxiliary gym for wrestling and an instructional classroom. The gym incorporates team rooms for boys and girls and a trainers facility along with official locker facilities. The equipments in the gym can be remotely controlled and programmed to raise and lower backstops, curtains and bleachers to enable maximum use of the facility.
The refurbished structure will also include a new hall of fame, new lobby/corridor which will host all of the Districts’ previous and future awards and trophies and accommodations for school store and concession section.
The upgraded facility is expected to house 2,000 students. Work on the project commenced with the design phase in January 2007. The design stage was completed in early 2008. Construction commenced in April 2008 and was completed in the stipulated three-year span.
