The Charles M Schulz-Sonoma County Airport undertook a terminal expansion scheme worth $2.3 million. The enhanced terminal features a larger screening area, new ticket counter, two new restrooms, indoor baggage carousel and other improvements. Carpeting and exterior improvements will continue until August 2010.
By adding 500 square meters to the old terminal, the facility has been expanded by about one third. The expansion scheme was necessitated due to the incapability of the old terminal to handle increasing traffic, especially during the peak hours.
The scheme has been funded by $1.7 million from federal stimulus funds, and the rest $4.50 from facility fee paid by each passenger who boards a flight at the county-owned airport.
