The dome will be a part of $150 million renovation project for the airport’s passenger terminal, which is scheduled to begin in mid-2012 and is likely to span two years.
The dome will be built over the main lobby of the passenger terminal. The 37 metre diametre dome will bring in natural light into the building and create a light and airy environment.
Other components of renovation include installation of a statue, fountain or gazebo to the lobby and creation of a large, glass wall, which will separate new passengers from those who have completed security checks.
Scope of the project also involves redevelopment of the terminal’s flooring and ceiling. The project will add six more gates, consolidate security checkpoints near Concourse A, develop a third baggage carousel and a new car-rental pavilion and add more food vendors behind the security gate.
The plans for renovation will now be put before the full airport board on 19 April 2012.
