The house situated at 1335 South Central Avenue is a 1928 vintage brick bungalow comprising three bedrooms, one bathroom, a backyard, garage as well as about 3,300 square feet of usable area.
CM Real Estate purchased the house in February 2011 through GreenChoice Bank funding. The renovation project will incorporate various sustainable features including non-usage of volatile organic compound (VOC) paints and installation of a tankless water heater, low VOC floor finish, low flow Kohler faucets, Kohler Tub comprising 93% recycled material, kitchen cabinets certified by FSC along with new insulated attic windows.
Other green features incorporated in the house are Energy Star eligible back door and kitchen equipment, lighting fixtures low on energy consumption with dimmers for main room lights. The exhaust fan in the bathroom will be timer-set and the house will feature low water landscape plantings. Garage roofing and siding will be provided through recycled materials. The oak floors and doors of the house have been retained.
The home is expected to be the first to receive National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) National Green Building Certification (Bronze level) and is also expected to be NAHB’s first Green Certified Home in Illinois
