The Christ Hospital achieved LEED certification for energy use, lighting, water and material use as well as incorporating a host of other sustainable strategies.

Building exterior and hardscape management plans include the policies on the use of Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) chemicals, which limits the use of deicers during snow conditions and address sound levels with powered lawn equipment.

The facility is equipped with alternative means to divert storm water from the public sewer systems through the use of green roofing and bio-retention systems. The design also enables heat island reduction by maintaining a percentage of green space as compared to paved areas.

Christ Hospital has installed low flow fixtures, water sensors and waterless urinals to cut down internal building load on water requirements. Use of drip irrigation systems coupled with smart technology sprinkler have reduced lawn irrigation requirements. Sub-metering of various water usage areas allows measurement and tracking of water consumption.

The hospital is equipped with systems that manage, reduce and eliminate the use of CFC refrigerants and also monitors and reduces utility system consumption. The facility features ENERGY STAR rating of 75 or higher and occupancy sensors in offices and storage areas. It has also developed processes and procedures to utilize green cleaning techniques and products.
