The hi-tech city design is claimed by the architectural firm as one of the largest design projects ever undertaken in the world. Conceptual design for 10 buildings linking the precinct together is based on the mythology of the Nanjing region around the golden butterfly, rain-flower pebbles and imagery created by throwing a pebble into water.
It will include housing for 200,000 residents, industrial developments and commercial sectors and is proposed to be built on a combination of greenfields and existing low level light industrial development.
Entire infrastructure including schools, hospitals, retail facilities, sport and entertainment complexes will be linked by an elevated automated rail transport system inspired from the new Melbourne tram fleet.
The project has been designed on LEED principles with all the 10 buildings aiming to secure top LEED rating.
