Wästberg developed the new W101 lamp in close collaboration with Swedish forestry industry company Södra and Claesson Koivisto Rune. The new product is a combination of electricity, paper and light. Paper is completely integrated into the lamp design and not just used as a component or for casing.

The main component of the lamp is DuraPulp, which is made from selected pulp from Södra combined with Polylactic (PLA), a renewable biopolymer produced from starch. The amalgamation of these two components offers special properties that can be reinforced through hot pressing.

DuraPulp is distinct for its characteristic features such as high wet strength, high water resistance, high dimensional stability as well as high tensile strength and bending stiffness. DuraPulp is made from 100% renewable fibers and is fully biodegradable.
