The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility is expected to take place in late June 2010. Iowa-based healthcare and commercial construction contractor Graham Construction will serve as the general contractor for the project and Kansas-based architectural, planning, and interior design firm ACI Boland is the project architect.
The new $28 million hospital, to be located in the Allen Davison Business Park at the south edge of Clarinda, will be designed as a one-story facility spanning 73,000 square feet. The facility will contain a 68,000 square feet main building and 5,000 square feet maintenance and storage building. The current hospital measures 70,000 square feet.
Though the new building is identical with the old facility in terms of square footage, most of the departments will have double the amount of functioning space due to the efficient one-story design, which eliminates the need for elevators and stairwells and allows that space to be used for patient care.
The hospital will feature safe and adequate parking; improved building access including ADA compliance; state-of-the-art communication systems; and increased privacy and security for patients and staff. An enhanced emergency department will feature private treatment areas and an enclosed ambulance bay. Majority of the rooms at the hospital will be private, with increased space and comfort enabled by modern plumbing, air filtration, heating and cooling systems.
Financing for the project will come from a combination of revenue bonds and grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
