The project is being developed by Porter and Porter Construction of Independence. Work will involve creation of a new two-level addition which will be built in the eastern and northern portion of the library. The addition will expand the facility by 2,900 square feet and will increase the size of its main floor by more than twice the existing size.

The expansion will lead to the creation of a space for children as well as a teen area. The building will now be equipped with additional study tables and computer stations. There will also be extra elbow room in the work space, along with a new check-out and circulation counter.

The project will be financed via over $160,000 Community Attraction & Tourism grant, city and county funding, and $90,000 in private donations. The furnishings will be paid through additional gifts. Work is due for completion by 2012 end.
