Replacing the existing main ward block which was constructed in 1962, the redevelopment will provide a £115 million ($180.51 million) Inpatient Ward Block. It will include 288 single bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms; a new day surgery department including four, state-of-the-art operating theatres and an endoscopy suite; a new pharmacy department and café; and support services.
Ensuring patient privacy and dignity, the new facility will provide improved infection prevention and control and provide a high standard of clinical accommodation.
The construction of the Inpatient Ward Block is scheduled to complete in late 2016 and is scheduled to open to patients in early 2017.
The Phase B redevelopment programme also includes the construction of a new £108 million ($169.52 million) Acute Services Block which is scheduled to commence in August 2014. Upon completion, the new facility will provide emergency department, specialist wards with 170 beds, assessment unit, imaging department and support services.
With enabling costs of £9 million ($14.12 million), this brings the total investment to £232 million ($364.17 million).
