Previously Contemporary Ceramics was trading from its venue near Carnaby Street. The gallery will be exhibiting the works of potters and ceramic artists who reflect the principles of the Craft Potters Association: ‘to encourage the creation of fine works in studio ceramics and to promote their value in society’.

Nationally and international makers such as John Ward and Walter Keeler can be seen alongside younger makers starting out on their careers. A changing display will present individual makers whose work illustrates the current diversity of thought and making processes practiced across this discipline, whilst also reflecting the strength of the historical legacy that has paved the way and continues to inform national and international studio ceramics today.

Contemporary Ceramics is located in the Courtyard room, in the South Building. The space is elegant and classical and is enhanced by extensive natural light. This venue provides a lively context in which both contemporary and traditional studio ceramics sit side by side, a setting where the everyday function of handmade mugs and bowls can be enjoyed and celebrated alongside the aesthetic considerations of stand-alone pieces.

Contemporary Ceramics, a studio ceramics gallery in London’s West-End, aims at making studio pottery accessible and to promote and foster public interest in ceramic art.
