The renovation work of the FIS is a part of the airport renovation project that was initiated in October 2010. The FIS is situated within the Hayden W. Head Terminal. The renovation encompasses expansion in the space for federal clearing of international flights at the airport. The refurbished FIS would alleviate the number of people passing through the customs from 50 to over 200. The funding for this project came from FAA.
Apart from renovation of FIS, the airport is also upgrading its new airfield and maintenance facility, quick turn around rental car facility and ground shipping facility. The rental car facility is the first building in Corpus Christi to be LEED certified.
