DDG, based in Baltimore, Maryland, has been commissioned as the planner and design architect for the retail component of a mixed-used project called the Tianjin City Culture Center Development. The four million square feet, seven-level retail centre is expected to become the single largest shopping centre building in China.

This retail element will be crafted as the centrepiece of the nine million square feet commercial and cultural district in Tianjin City. Other elements of the project, which will be designed by other architects, include a Grand Theater and Opera House, Art Museum, Grand Library, Youth Education Museum, and a Natural History Museum. The retail precinct will be of the same size as The Mall of America, the largest shopping centre in the US.

The Tianjin City Culture Center Development project, located just 20 minutes outside of Beijing’s central business district, is being developed by Tianjin Lecheng Real Estate Co. Ltd.

Preliminary construction is already underway on the project, which is scheduled to be completed as early as 2012.
