Designed by Darwin-based Mode Designs, the park will feature a six-line, 14m-high racer water slide; wet play area; kiosk; car parks; and open grassed play areas with barbecues. Other features include offices for lifeguards, toilets and change rooms, car parking facilities, extension to existing skate park, and shaded areas.

The park was estimated to cost $13.6 million when the design tender winning was announced in October 2010. The Palmerston Water Park will provide free recreational fun for families in Palmerston and the surrounding rural areas.

The plan has been developed in consultation with the Palmerston community through a community forum in November 2010 and the Larrakia Traditional Owners.

The Government expects construction to begin in mid to late 2011 and be completed in 2012.
