The project includes improvements to the emergency and surgery departments, the outpatient clinic, the ambulance garage and other areas at the north end of the hospital. The case for the multimillion dollar project will be presented at a special public meeting.

Improvements to the meeting space and administrative offices at the facility are currently under way. Asbestos has already been replaced at some isolated areas such as the boiler room, cleaning and storage areas and the caulking in the ambulance garage. The expected cost of the total asbestos abatement is about $50,000.

Officials are also trying to acquire a $300,000 loan from the United States Department of Agriculture, which would be used to make up the majority of the $400,000 cost of lighting technology improvements for the Emergency and Operating Departments.
