The phase II of the San Diego County Operations Center and Annex redevelopment scheme involves construction of two steel-framed, four-storey office buildings that span 150,000 square feet; and a 15,000 square feet conference centre and cafeteria. Construction has been undertaken by Lowe Enterprises.
The phase II of the development has been adorned with artworks by local San Diego artists. Placed through all the floors of the building, the artworks consist of both suspended and ground mounted sculptures, original paintings, photographs, and a collection of local historic artefacts. This has also created an archive of historically significant pieces for the county.
The project has incorporated several sustainable practices, based on which the office buildings are being pursued for LEED God status. The 15,000 square feet conference centre features a green roof, and is being targeted for LEED Platinum certification. Phase one of the project has already achieved LEED Gold certification, and was named the San Diego Gas & Electric Energy Leader for new construction for 2011.
The project forms part of the County Operations Center scheme that sprawls over a 47-acre site on Overland Avenue in Kearny Mesa, San Diego. Lowe completed the first phase of the project, consisting of two 150,000 square feet office buildings and a seven-level, 1,800-space parking structure, in October 2010. The entire project is slated for completion in December 2013.
