Designed by healthcare business consulting and architecture firm Trinity in collaboration with URS Corporation, the new $27.5 million facility has increased the size of emergency department at Doctors Hospital from 14,000 to 30,000 square feet. The new ED includes 48 private exam rooms, two trauma rooms, seven triage rooms, indoor and outdoor decontamination facilities, a café and comfortable waiting areas.

Some other improvements include electronic medical records, advanced diagnostic technology and more space for ambulance crews. The expansion has offered space for Physicians in Triage program that enables quick discharge of patients with minor complaints.

The new addition houses Heritage Center for Osteopathic Medical Education on its second floor. The new tower has helped in consolidating all medical education and research programs into a training facility. This facility is equipped with human patient simulators, an anatomical laboratory, medical library, wireless Internet access, a 300-seat auditorium and administrative offices for the Department of Graduate Medical Education.

Funded by OhioHealth and a grant from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations, the new facility is expected to make Doctors Hospital one of the nation’s premiere osteopathic teaching hospitals.
