The new plan is estimated to cost $202,145, which will lower the initial cost of building the restrooms in the park. About 500 square feet has been reduced from the previous plan.

Storage area, an arched, pass-through opening, and a drinking fountain have been eliminated to achieve the desired size for the restrooms. Installation of the decorative pavers, initially planned to be located outside the building, have also been eliminated, saving an approximate $34,913 on cost.

The stonework appearance of the trailhead building on the park’s south side and the nearby Royal Credit Union headquarters will be retained. The Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department aims at maintaining a high-end restroom, while providing a bathroom at the north end of the park.

The city council also discussed plans to build an indoor bathroom across the street from the park as part of continued North Barstow district redevelopment that is accessible to park users throughout the year.
