The homes have been built to meet the future demands for sustainable buildings. The building design conforms with local conditions and focus on the health and well-being of occupants.
The buildings are constructed with high thermal performance and low energy demand requirements using innovative products and systems. The homes will also use natural resources to reduce carbon emissions by 80%. The homes will be weather-tight in two weeks and will be completed in early 2011. They will be open to the public for six months before undergoing energy performance monitoring to feedback into the industry and then being sold on the open market.
Willmott Dixon, HTA Architects and North Northants Development Company and Kettering Borough Council are collaborating on the project.
The Model Home 2020 project aims to demonstrate how homes can be responsibly sourced in environmental terms and serve as healthy living units for families.
