Located at Baldwin Terrace, North London, the refurbishment of Foundry was completed in 2012 by Cullinan Studio.
Awarded with BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, the Foundry is naturally ventilated while an air source heat pump feeds under-floor heating. An inserted steel frame works with the existing Victorian frame. To support the listed south wall to the canal as well as to provide a double height office mezzanine space, it features masonry. During the refurbishment, an art installation by Aeneas Wilderre was also constructed on the building site.
Following completion of the refurbishment of Foundry, the construction started on 12 residential units on the site. Designed using Building Information Modelling, the residential scheme will provide dual aspect accommodation by the Regent’s Canal. The A layered south facade of sliding windows and louvres will enable the inhabitants to passively control the internal environment.
The New London Awards recognises the very best in architecture, planning and development in the capital. The winners will be announced at the NLA Annual Lunch at the Guildhall in London on 11 July 2013.
