The groundbreaking ceremony was held on January 26, 2010. The LEED designation from US Green Building Council (USGBC) verifies an environmentally friendly design and sustainable building construction.

The new campus designed by New York-based practice Perkins + Will will utilize renewable and alternative energy technologies. Energy sources will include solar, hot water, and photovoltaics. The dependence on these energy efficient systems and equipment will enable Gateway to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and the demand on the existing energy utilities.

The project is being built at the site of the former Macy’s and Malley’s department stores at 2 Church Street. The project is expected to be completed in September 2012.

The construction manager for the project is Rhode Island-based Dimeo Construction Company, and the construction administrator is Connecticut-based Gilbane Building Company.
