The construction of NREL’s office facility is expected to be complete in 2010 in Golden, Colorado.
Construction has begun on the $64 million, 218,000 square feet facility on May 7, 2009. This green facility will house 700 of NREL’s employees.
The structure will depend on wind and solar energy for its energy requirements along with giving energy back to the power grid.
The sustainable features of the building are use of regional materials, recycling up to 20% of waste output, reducing water consumption by 20% for indoor and using it for landscaping.
NREL is the US’s primary laboratory for renewable energy and energy efficiency research and development.
