The new international airport is expected to act as a link between the Caribbean and South American regions. A contract has also been signed for the completion of Phase II of a 4,000 x 10 feet International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Class II C runway.

Ogle Airport is currently classified as ICAO class I A. The $6 million project includes improvements to taxiways, aprons, perimeter fences, runway lights, and the upgrade to terminals. Work on this phase has already commenced and is ahead of schedule. The new runway will be completed by 2011.

In 2003, the airport was a local hub shuttling some 50,000 passengers and 1,800 tons of cargo annually. Construction began to expand the facility to an international airport with upgraded facilities for immigration, customs, air traffic control, health, and fire service. A $400 million runway and terminal was inaugurated in 2007.
