The terminal is undergoing an expansion in order to cope with the increase in flights at the airport. The project will enhance the floor area of the existing terminal by almost 40%. The expanded terminal will feature a large number of boarding gates and security check corners.
Other features of the expansion project will include expansion of the tarmac of the airport in addition to construction of a new hotel in close proximity to the terminal. The expansion of the terminal is expected to increase its annual flight handling capacity from 60,000 to 90,000 as per estimates drawn by Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Tourism Ministry.
Construction work is expected to commence by 2012 and be completed by the end of 2013.
