The project, carried out in phases, involved an increase in the size of the facility by 50% and creation of various new services. There has been creation of a new gateway entryway off Forest Avenue as part of the expansion. The new entrance facilitates access to the hospital’s emergency unit.
The facility now also houses a Forest Medical Plaza spanning 90,000 square feet. The plaza comprises the Henrico Surgery Centre along with clinics dedicated for cancer patients. The hospital now also incorporates an intraoperative MRI suite.
The heart centre of the facility has been expanded from 16 to 24 intensive care beds as part of the project. The emergency unit has also undergone an expansion. Further, there has been creation of an extra 400 spaces in the parking lot. Among the other new additions to the hospital are a heart centre, pre-admission testing, outpatient registration and Breast Centre, as well as the courtyard and medical office buildings.
The project had a duration of five years.
