Part of the $75 million renovation project approved by the Hinsdale Village Board, the helipad will be built on the top level of an existing parking garage. The hospital will begin its construction project in April 2010 with completion expected in late 2011. The approval, granted by a vote of 5-1 on Monday, also gives the village the right to revisit and revoke the special-use permit for the helipad in 2012 and every four years thereafter.

Doug Geoga, a truetee, said that he voted to approve the helipad because helicopter transport is rarely needed and that the revocation clause will allow the village to reconsider its approval if the hospital starts using the helipad merely as a matter of convenience.
