Hirsch Bedner utilized residential approach in the design and style of interiors. The interior design blends naturally with the building’s architectural style. The back wall of the reception desk is framed by a replica of the 18th century blue and white tiles adorned with motifs that date back to the trends of that period.
Paulo Dias, a senior designer on the project said, “We mixed historic furniture, art, Chinese decorative textiles and European grandeur throughout the property to evoke a subtle but classic sense of place, whether in the guestrooms or in the public spaces.
Textiles and etchings resembling ancient Macau style and a Ming Dynasty style console and carpets add to the classic look of the hotel. The design of the lobby resembles the living room of a colonial Portuguese house, complete with a fireplace, Portuguese lanterns, ceiling fans and bamboo floor. The Chinese lacquer screens date back to the 18th century and demonstrate China’s influence on trade and design.
Six big Portuguese inspired lanterns, custom made in China, are 1.8 meters in height and reflect original craftsmanship and artistry. Another attractive thing about the hotel is the large rotunda, which is framed by two grand staircases that meet in the center of the lobby and lead to the second level ballroom and entertainment space. It features a carpet inspired from an original Portuguese 15th Century arraiolos found in a Lisbon museum.
