The City Center space, listed on the national historic register for its exceptional art deco interior, is distinct for art deco style. It showcases zigzag woodwork, etched mirrors and glass chandeliers. The space was originally designed and built in the Saxe Moving Picture Theater in 1929-1930.

Shea has added more modern inclusions to the space, while preserving the original interior. Soft seating, intimate gathering spaces, and neutral-colored carpeting were the modern additions.

The newly refurbished space features herringbone-patterned wood flooring. The bar has been relocated to the center of the restaurant to generate a visual focal point. The designers have retained some of the natural signs of aging, cracks, holes and other imperfections in the space, to lend a touch of character and authenticity.

The redesign and preservation project is short listed for the MN Historic Preservation Awards. The winners will be announced on May 20, 2010.
