HMKM is shouldered with the responsibility of retail planning, interior design, brand elements and wayfinding across the 10-story, 40,000 square meter store.

Hyundai’s new store will feature a food hall and delicatessen in the basement and the upper floors will house cosmetics, accessories, clothing, technology, homewares, sports equipment and a sit-down dining area.

The top floor will offer an event space with auditorium and lecture theater with the capacity to host wedding services, says Christian Papa, director of HMKM. Hyundai has plans to add a roof space and has been asked to create designs for a roof garden.

The new concept department store in the Lakins Mall in Il-San Kintex, Seoul, designed by US architect RTKL is expected to open by early 2010.

Hyundai Department Store Group operates the Hyundai Department Store chain of department stores in South Korea. In addition, the group operates a range of service industry businesses. Subsidiary businesses include Hyundai Home Shopping and Hotel Hyundai.
