The facility now spans about 40,000 square feet which is twice its existing size. It also features expanded produce, seafood, and prepared foods departments. Further, the expanded property imbibes several green features such as a white roof to repel heat. It features skylights for daylight harvesting. It has also been equipped with energy-efficient LED lighting fixtures in overhead track lights, spotlights on specialty areas and displays, exterior store signs and in frozen food cases.
Low-mercury lights have been installed throughout the store whereas the storage areas and offices have been fitted with occupancy sencor-controlled lighting systems. The refrigerated fixtures and walk-in coolers of the store make use of ECM motors to reduce electricity consumption by 33%. Further, there is an energy management system to monitor the energy used for lighting, refrigeration, and HVAC units.
The restrooms and prep areas of the property incorporate low-flow fixtures which reap 35% of water cost cuts. Use of low-VOC paints, sealants, and adhesives add to the sustainability by upgrading indoor air quality. Among its other green features include use of regionally-sourced materials, and a high-performance waste management system which diverts materials to recycling centres.
