Work on the project included upgrading the existing playground by installing safety surfacing as well as creation of a new picnic shelter measuring 35 feet. The facility also features a new permanent restroom with vault toilets post renovation work.
The revamped facility has been equipped with decorative pavers. The pavers will help increase and widen the asphalt pedestrian walkway along the river while the rest of the asphalt pathway has been completely resurfaced. Further, the tennis court has been transformed to an integrated tennis/ basketball court.
The Fox River Trail along Route 31 has been extended following the makeover to enhance safety for pedestrians as well as bicyclists. The park has also employed various measures to stabilise the shoreline and slash erosion possibilities along Fox river. The overhauled facility features a pair of raised overlook plazas adorned with ornate railings. The plazas allow glimpses of the surrounding river. In addition, the canoe and kayak launch of the park has now been improved to combat erosion more effectively.
The project has been partly financed through $400,000 in development grants from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development programme. Contributions for shoreline stabilisation and erosion reduction have been received via a grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.
