Awarded on September 17, Kalmus’ winning design was for a condo kitchen measuring less than 200 square feet. The restricted space was an additional challenge as the plumbing fixtures and electrical outlets could not be moved because the building does not have a basement.
The owner of the kitchen wanted a workable and professional kitchen with specific items. The design features clean lines and is contemporary with wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances. Decorated with some mosaic tile, the owner also plans to use the kitchen for a culinary school.
Kalnus, who has been in business since 1988 with her firm Designing Edge, mainly tackles kitchens, bathrooms, nurseries, and commercial spaces in the western suburbs and downtown Chicago.
