The company reused an existing two-storey, 71,954 square feet office and data center at Santa Clara to build its new data centre. The space was retrofitted as per the requirements of Internap and green features were incorporated into it to make it sustainable.

Attention was paid to make the building energy-efficient. Further initiatives consisted of consumption of no fossil fuels, reduced greenhouse emissions, conservation of water, and reduction of other forms of pollution. The resultant data centre is both, productive and environmentally friendly.

The new data centre of Internap is the first commercial data centre in California to use reclaimed water in the cooling towers. The building features high-efficiency lighting, and HVAC systems and controls in the office area which showed a decrease in power consumption by more than 30% compared to similar facilities that were awarded green certification.

The building completely runs on green power, which saves almost £487,585 of carbon dioxide emission. The builder has reused more than 99% of the exterior structural components in the renovation of the building and diverted almost 85% of its construction waste from the landfills.

The on-site review process for the certification was undertaken by Green Globe Initiative (GBI). GBI evaluated the building against the parameters of the building reuse, minimum site disturbance, and energy conservation for Green Globes. The data centre has received 100% in the Environmental Protection Agency’s energy performance rating system. The energy usage at the facility is 49% lesser than a comparable facility of Internap.
