Construction for the terminal was completed in about 20 months, which included addition of 52,000 square feet to the building as well as the renovation of about 48,000 square feet of existing space. The new building includes a new $12.2 million baggage-handling system and an enlarged ticketing lobby, security checkpoint and hold room.
The existing Jedediah’s restaurant at the building was also refurbished and moved into the secure part of the building. The design of the building complements the landscape. The design brief of the building included a flexible space that could be adjusted as the airport grows.
The new additional terminal was built to cope with increasing volumes of passengers. The airport remained open to travellers during the construction process. The entire work was completed within budget.
