Work on the project commenced in February 2008 with the building team led by EllisDon Corporation. The project involved creation of over 450,000 square feet of new and refurbished space. There has also been an increase in the number of beds from 234 to 338.

The project has led to creation of more single patient rooms, additional oncology beds, and an upgraded emergency unit. The capacity of emergency services, diagnostic services, ambulatory clinics and surgery has been raised. There has also been creation of nine operating suites to serve surgical oncology and orthopedic requirements. In addition, the project has consolidated the facility’s hematology oncology and hepatobiliary surgery services.
