The new facility has been designed by HMC Architects and is being developed by McCarthy Construction. It will substitute the current hospital tower at the campus. The new hospital will span 490,000 square feet and house 314 beds. It will sport a cardiac surgery wing, an emergency unit with 51 beds, a pediatric and neonatal ICU, inpatient dialysis unit, pediatrics, ICU, labor and delivery, cardiac cath lab, and surgery.
The hospital support building, attached to the hospital, will incorporate medical offices, radiology services, a pharmacy, and a specialty clinic. All the patient rooms of the hospital will be private and will be equipped with windows to allow natural light penetration. The new facility will also sport an outdoor courtyard.
The new facility will also imbibe a host of green features. It will be fitted with a white roof to absorb less heat and hence, slash air conditioning requirements. The design of the building will optimise natural light circulation. It will also consist of dual-glazed windows for insulation.
The electrical, air, lighting and plumbing units installed in the building will run low on energy consumption. It will also employ measures to upgrade quality of indoor air. Among other sustainable features are use of reclaimed water to meet landscaping and cooling needs, use of reclaimed materials during construction, and recycling construction debris.
The facility is due to open by 2013.
