The project has been developed by Hunt Companies, Incorporation and is the first net-zero affordable housing project in the nation to bag the certification. The property is targeted at people earning less than 80% of the area median income.
It features 19 single-family low-income affordable homes as well as a community resource centre. The homes are divided into three and four bedroom units. The community centre sports different gardening spaces, aquaculture ponds, imu oven and kitchen facilities, as well as a pavilion for community gatherings and various cultural events.
All the homes of the facility imbibe several green features including solar water heating. It has installed photovoltaic panels to produce electricity. The lighting fixtures and appliances fitted in the building run low on energy usage. The design of the facility allows maximum natural light penetration, reaping more energy cost cuts.
Use of renewable materials, and incorporation of an energy monitoring dashboard further contributes to its net-zero status. The building has cut down energy usage by 50% compared to a standard-built baseline residence by employing multiple energy-efficient elements.
