King & King transformed a run-down warehouse in Syracuse into their offices into a showcase for sustainable design. It acquired the building in 2007 and moved its operations to the new facility in 2009.
The building spans 52,000 square feet and uses 50% less energy and water than a typical new building. Solar panels are incorporated which supply some electricity; with the rest met by wind power. The building uses skylights which enable up to 95% infiltration of daylight in the work and meeting spaces.
The building features timber roof and a large central room called ‘The Barn’. A roof garden is featured on the top that reduces runoff and heat. Ventilation systems eliminate pollen and provide personal cooling. The facility has employed natural or recycled materials into its floors and work surfaces.
Of the 13 buildings in New York that have been certified platinum, the King & King headquarters tied for receiving the highest score in the certification process.
