Le Méridien Grand Hotel Nürnberg recently opened the Fürstenhof restaurant, built to shelter the overflow from its existing restaurant, and serve as a conference room when necessary. It features a color combination of black and white, with black mouldings on ivory panels, wenge tables with mirror ball pendant lights hung above it, suede dining chairs, silver floral wall coverings, and striped patterns in the carpet.
The renovation of its 186 guestrooms is due for completion in October 2009.
Original architectural details dating back to the early 20th century served as inspiration for JOIDesign’s 21st century interpretation. The new restaurant and guestroom styles take their cue from vintage features in the reception and guest bathrooms. Influences in the lobby include the visual weight of the fluted black columns, the right angles of the marble floor’s inlay, and the framed wall panels; in the guest bathrooms, cream marble wall cladding outlined with an ebony border provides a transition to the new bedroom design.
The guestrooms feature coffee tables and nightstands, steamer trunks tailored with tooled leather corners and handles inspired by the old European values as well as the legacy of French fashion house Louis Vuitton. In some of the bedrooms, the headboard is tufted in a diamond-pattern reminiscent of the quilting on a Barbour jacket, while the sofas are upholstered in a black-and-white hound’s-tooth check, first popularized by Coco Chanel in the early 20th century.
A flash of “British racing green” color, takes its name from the green international motor racing color of Great Britain painted on the work surface, and reflects the lines of the Jugendstil writing desk and the shape of the chair. The guestroom walls are hung with black and white photographs of those who have graced its porte cochère (portico at the main entrance). It also has a detailed map of the region.
