The first contract for $10.9 million was awarded to Walsh Austin Joint Venture for risk pre-construction services to be provided at the Bradley West Gates, a component of the overall Tom Bradley International terminal modernization project.
Pre-construction services may consist of risk assessment, construction phasing, cost and budget estimating, and mitigation recommendations, among others.
The second contract worth $5.8 million was awarded to Griffith Company based in Santa Fe Springs for general construction services in connection with the cross field taxiway project. This contract will provide for the construction of a new aircraft parking ramp, new emergency exits for an American Airlines maintenance hangar, airfield security fencing, and other building modifications.
The Crossfield Taxiway will connect LAX’s north and south airfields. A construction contract for this taxiway project was awarded in March to R&L Brosamer, Inc., and construction is expected to start in May 2009. The project also will provide for both near-term and long-term environmental benefits by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and fuel consumption.
With commercial operation of the Airbus A380 at the Los Angeles International anticipated to increase substantially by early 2012, airport officials are focusing on preparing it for the new generation of aircraft.
