Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo will debut the new sushi restaurant in early 2011. The exclusive restaurant on the 38th floor, with a large floor-to-ceiling window, will offer breathtaking views of the soon to be completed Tokyo Sky Tree and dynamic city panorama.
In line with the hotel’s elegant oriental interior, the hotel is again working with designer Ryu Kosaka, who will introduce the aesthetic principles of ‘Japanese beauty and ultimate simplicity.’ Kosaka was the original creator of Mandarin Oriental Tokyo’s award-winning restaurant and bar area on the 37th floor.
In order to capture the ambience of serenity, the restaurant’s granite floors and onyx walls have been created around the traditional Japanese Hanchiku techniques, reminiscent of Japanese roof tiles. The restaurant will feature eight seats at an exquisite counter made of age-old Japanese cypress, forming a ‘stage’ for the sushi chef.
The hotel is located in Nihonbashi, an area often regarded as the birthplace of sushi. Christian Hassing, general manager of Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, stated that in the new restaurant, guests will be able to enjoy superb sushi against a stylish backdrop with fantastic views overlooking the skylines of the Metropolis and Tokyo Sky Tree, which is considered to be the tallest transmission tower in the world upon its completion.
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group now operates, or has under development, 42 hotels representing over 10,000 rooms in 27 countries, with 18 hotels in Asia, 12 in The Americas and 12 in Europe, Middle East and North Africa.
