The village has attracted some of Europe’s best-known luxury and designer brands. It features one of Europe’s biggest solar energy schemes ever used in the retail sector. The first phase of the center was opened on February 18, 2010.
La Reggia Designer Outlet will be the first designer outlet in the region of Campania. The La Reggia Designer Outlet includes 17,500 square meter of gross leasable area (GLA) in around 100 units, with strong fashion brands as well as a great selection of cafes and restaurants, including well-known local names.
The second phase of the center is already under way. The first half, including 4,500 square meters, will be unveiled at the end of 2010 and the second in the second quarter of 2011, featuring an additional 4,500 square meters. In total, once the second phase is open, the EUR120 million ($163.2 million approx) La Reggia Designer Outlet will offer 26,500 square meter of retail space with a total of 140 stores.
La Reggia Designer Outlet, which is McArthurGlen’s 19th designer outlet village in Europe, includes one of Europe’s biggest solar energy projects in a retail scheme, with 10,000 square meter of solar panels integrated into the roof. The panels will produce sufficient energy to cover 30% of the center’s energy needs, equivalent to 268,200 kWh, enough to supply energy for 80 homes and saving around 180,000 kg of CO2 a year.
La Reggia Designer Outlet reflects the Rococo style of the Royal Palace, La Reggia di Caserta, which was built by the Bourbon kings and is one of the region’s main tourist attractions. The center’s architectural style is also inspired by the Mediterranean architecture and Byzantine-style domes seen on the nearby Amalfi Coast.
Prior to the opening of La Reggia Designer Outlet, McArthurGlen operated 95,000 square meters of retail space in Italy. By the end of 2011, this will increase to around 150,000 square meter, with the opening of the two phases of La Reggia Designer Outlet, as well as the opening of new phases at Castel Romano in 2011, Barberino in 2011 and Veneto Designer Outlets in 2010 and 2011.
