The referendum presented a bond of about $6.8 million for a new sports complex at the high school that would have included a new stadium and upgraded fields. The bond also talked about a new paved parking to replace the current dirt one.
Plans were also on to include new handicapped accessible bleachers and install an artificial turf to cover the football and soccer fields. School authorities also planned to add a new concession building with public restrooms and locker rooms, and new bus garage.
With about 1,900 voters, the referendum was rejected as it failed by a 1,339 to 646 vote. The project was not feasible at a time of recession, while the school authoprities argued that it was a good time as federal stimulus money is now available, and the contractor bids are low and rates of bonds are also low.
The approval of the referendum would increase the property tax by $176 a year for 15 years.
