The hangar is intended to meet growing storage demand by large twin-engine aircraft and business jet owners.
The facility is designed by the airport solutions provider, Airport Development Group. The hangar is a 100×100 feet facility, large enough to hold a Gulfstream IV business jet, says Michelle Jackson, airport manager.
The facility will feature an 80-feet wide by 26-feet tall hangar door to allow for fast access to aircraft. An additional 1,000 square feet of office space will be created in front which can be modified to meet the needs of the tenant.
The project is funded by a multi-modal grant from the Mississippi Department of Transportation.
The airport facility is owned by Hinds Community College, and operated by Michelle Jackson. The college offers aviation technology programs at the airport, such as pilot training, aviation management, avionics, airframe and power-plant certification.
The hangar project is part of the $11 million capital improvement program underway at the airport. It includes reconstruction and lengthening of its runway and taxiway to accommodate a greater percentage of the worldwide business jet fleet.
