The project that commenced in 2007 included the purchase and installation of canopies that lead from the airport terminal building to the middle of the parking area, sign replacement, earthwork, asphalt, concrete sidewalks, concrete curb and gutter, storm sewer and other items associated with convenience building, cell phone lot and rental car ready-and-return parking lot. The project also undertook the construction of a convenience building, which is designed as a sitting area with restrooms and a break area for taxi, limo drivers, charter buses and delivery drivers.
Landscaping and irrigation works near where the convenience building and sign are located were also included. Electrical improvements including lighting and signage in the parking lot were carried out under the project along with improvement and upgrading of the parking lot ticket booths.
The airport intermodal improvements project was funded with a $906,640 federal grant from the Department of Transportation to start preliminary engineering and design. An amendment in June 2009 increased the amount to $3,990,084.
