The 1969-built D.L. Ligon Coliseum has been home to the MSU athletic department for 41 years, and is the site of all MSU home basketball and volleyball events. The $10.5 million phase one renovation is currently complete, with the $6.7 million phase two renovation yet to start.
The facility has received new bleachers and new hand rails of ADA standards, new fire sprinklers and new ADA seating marked out on the floor. The walled-up areas are designed to reduce capacity by 800 seats to match the facility’s number of exits.
The newly finished football locker rooms feature new carpets, and wooden built-ins for seating and stowing gear. Large Mustang logos of galloping horses are tiled onto the floor of the large shower room. The locker rooms feature a study area with space for computers and televisions. The former Wellness Center has been converted into a weight facility for student athletes.
The new project also included construction of a new $2.63 million Fain Instrumental Music Building. The new facility can seat 133 current band members, compared to the old one that could seat only 45. The building also houses two faculty offices and a computer lab.
The 3,640-seat arena is air-conditioned and has a hardwood playing surface. The building also features a practice gymnasium, weight room, wellness center, training room, locker rooms and classrooms, as well as MSU’s athletic offices.
