The new centre has replaced the former Defense Security Command site in Sogyeok-dong, popularly known as ‘Gimusa’ into a contemporary performance and rehearsal space. It was temporarily named as Seogye-dong Culture Space after two legendary veteran actors – Baik Sung-hee and Chang Min-ho.

The 400-seat theater will serve as the rehearsal space and studio hall for the National Drama Company of Korea. It features a small theater and two studios. It also includes residency facilities, locker rooms and shower facilities for 108 people.

The U-shaped building has been painted bright red post renovation, which is immediately visible from nearby Seoul Station. Renovations to the Gimusa annex began in June 2010, following an agreement with the Ministry of National Defense.

The site of the original Gimusa headquarters will be reopened in 2012 as the final branch of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea (MOCA). The main building of MOCA is located in Gwacheon, with the second branch in Deoksu Palace, downtown Seoul.
