The new 25,000-square-foot facility features advanced medical technology with 30 private rooms including six critical care/trauma bays and three triage rooms, a dedicated fast-track suite, and new walk-in patient/family areas.

The existing ambulance bay has been doubled in size and includes a heated decontamination area to protect patients and staff from biological exposure. The new ER is designed to provide abundant natural light to create a comfortable environment for patients and families.

The new facility is part of a three-year, $100 million hospital expansion and renovation project. It includes the three-story, 90,000 square-feet John and Carol Walter Ambulatory Care Center to house the John and Carol Walter Center for Urologic Health, NorthShore Kellogg Cancer Center and NorthShore Neurological Institute. The project also includes a new interventional radiology, MRI and cardiology services suite, which will open in November 2011. The entire project is scheduled for completion in early 2012.
